Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

A few years ago for thanksgiving, we went to Florida, and instead of having a traditional thanksgiving meal, we tried a seafood version of it. Instead of turkey/ham we had fresh caught fish! Instead of mac and cheese we had scalloped potatoes. And so on... Today we took a quiz on the short story. As a group, we worked on it together! I feel like I did a good job on the quiz, and contributed 4/5 of the answers.

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

Last year in AP world, there was an assignment due at 11:59pm on Friday, and I planned to finish it when I got home from school on Friday. But when I got home, I played basketball for an hour or two, and came inside and fell asleep unintentionally. I woke up from the nap at 11pm. Then I remembered about the assignment. I thought it was over for me. But I had to make the decision to not play video games with ALL my friends, and complete the assignment in record time. I ended up finishing it with 10 mins to spare, then I played the game. Today we finished reading "The life you save may be your own". And watched the short movie as well. ' I think the short story was engaging, and an overall good read. I got better at reading comprehension, and I'm ready for the quiz tomorrow.

Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

There was a homeless man at the exit of a highway. He had a sign that said anything helps and anything will be appreciated. So my mom handed him an orange we had in the car. He said thank you, but as we drove off, my mom looked at her side mirror and saw that he chucked it far away. I was confused because of what his sign said didn't match up with the result of the orange. It made me not feel sorry for him. He chose to do that, and not be grateful for what he asked for. Today we started reading a short story and answered questions about it. I got better at reading comprehension.

Write about what you are thankful for.

I am thankful for a roof over my head, food, drinks, family, friends, the outdoors, fish, golf, appliances,  electricity, and personal hygiene stuff.  Today we did some vocabulary. We wrote the vocab words in our own sentences, and answered some multiple choice questions on them as well. I learned a new word today that I'll use in my everyday vocabulary: Idyllic.

The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

One of my 10th grade teachers gave us a unit test for the end of semester. So that was fine and normal. But then she said we will also have a final for the end of semester. So we took TWO tests at the end of the year. That new information about the final really made me dislike her more. Today we took a pop quiz on "A rose for Emily" in a group. I worked together with Colin and Max to get a 100 on the quiz!

In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

There was a story about Alien-like sea creatures that keep washing up on beaches. It was crazy because aliens aren't really talked about that much, and never really had any information about them. Maybe they could've just been some weird looking sea creatures. People were pretty scared about it, and didn't know if it would be a serious threat or not. Today in class we finished reading "A rose for Emily". We figured many things out about the story, and then we watched the film for the story. I enjoyed reading the short story, and watching the film.

Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

A place that holds deep memories for me is my grandma's old house. I have so many fun memories there with my cousin, going down to the nearby creek and exploring it. We would always be looking for animals, cool rocks, or something unexpected! Her backyard was connected to a golf hole, so sometimes in the creek we would find golf balls! haha. But that house changed the way I am today because I still love to explore new areas, and find new things. Because you never know what you may find! Today in class we started reading a short story and answering questions along the way. I think I did a good job at reading comprehension in today's short reading.

Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

One vocab word I've used outside of today was "metamorphosis". I used it in biology class freshman year! it was used to describe the life cycle of different animals like a butterfly. It starts as a caterpillar, then transforms into a butterfly. I like to think of 'morph', as it helps me visualize the word better. Today in class we did exercise 1 for lesson 2 in the vocabulary book. I learned new vocabulary today!

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

My mom has definitely been the strictest on me in my life. She has taught me a lot of lessons, so I wouldn't make dumb decisions and have to find out on my own. If I did something bad, I would get punished. Her ways of disciplining me have shaped me to be a better man of myself, and mature. I know what is right, and know what is wrong. Today we were still in our groups, and we did some extra work on our slides for our presentation. I learned some new vocab, and finished reading the story. It was a good class today.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

My parents made sure I wouldn't  ever go across the street to my neighbor's backyard. There was a creek that was stagnant and disgusting that was only home to snakes and other unwanted animals. The creek was super small with no purpose for a human to have with it. They set that rule so I wouldn't get harmed by any animal. Today we got in groups and started reading "The Rockpile". We shared stories of what would be considered a "rockpile" but in our own neighborhood. I have never really thought about bad areas in my neighborhood before because It isn't a bad area.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Reading and understanding what a poem is saying is pretty common. A lot of the time for me, it's vocab that I've never seen before. Using context clues in the poem will help with some, but others I would need to look up. And sometimes, that's all you need to be able to understand a poem more clearly! I can get a better grip of what is being said, help the whole poem flow more, and more. Today we did some vocabulary practice. We wrote the words in our notebook with their definitions, then we did some short exercises using those words in sentences. I learned new words and their meanings today.

Reflect on a time when you paused to appreciate the beauty of nature, much like the speaker in “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Where were you, what did you notice, and how did that moment of stillness make you feel or change your perspective?

These are some pictures from over the last weekend. I stopped to appreciate nature in its full beauty. This is in Suches, Georgia, when my friends, Jack, Colin, and I went camping! It was truly beautiful seeing all the trees in perfect fall coloration, and watching the sun go down behind the mountains. Today in class we worked on our 1 pager for a random poem we got assigned by Robert Frost. I got better at analyzing poems, and using context clues to help me figure things out.
