Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Reading and understanding what a poem is saying is pretty common. A lot of the time for me, it's vocab that I've never seen before. Using context clues in the poem will help with some, but others I would need to look up. And sometimes, that's all you need to be able to understand a poem more clearly! I can get a better grip of what is being said, help the whole poem flow more, and more.

Today we did some vocabulary practice. We wrote the words in our notebook with their definitions, then we did some short exercises using those words in sentences.

I learned new words and their meanings today.
