Something you did one time that was out of "the norm"

Instead of going to a football game, I decided to stay home by myself. Most everybody was going to this game but sometimes I just like to be alone rather than with my friends and other kids. Today we read a poem by Emily Dickinson. We deeply analyzed it and talked as a class about what it truly meant. Today I got better at poem analyzation, and answering the question, "Who are you?".

Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

My mindset is a rockwall. And i'm the climber. There are many obstacles and challenges to overcome but I do them anyway. Today we did 3 commonlits and this blog. I got better at reading comprehension today because I got a lot of the questions right about the story.

Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

I would like to go on a road trip across the U.S. and visit national parks and see beautiful landscapes and animals. I would go fishing, hiking, swimming, and exploring new areas. Today we took a quiz on vocabulary about origin myths. I learned a lesson to always make sure to study for something, even if a quiz or test might not happen, its always safe to study just in case of a pop quiz.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

I will never fully understand why teachers give assigned homework over the weekend. Like they had all week and decide to make us students suffer on our 2 days off. Today we presented out origin myths to the class. I'm happy with how my presentation went. I spoke fairly well, and wasn't just straight up staring at the screen reading.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:  The obvious answer is money, because who doesn't want money. But I would say time on Earth. Time really does fly by and I always wish you could have more time for things. I would want to explore the whole world, live every moment, and have a fulfilled life. Summary: Today the class finished up their own origin myth and poster. But I was already done with them so I just did the blog post. Reflection:  I got all my work done today and enjoyed relaxing and finishing some homework.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response:  In middle school art class we did a project where we only had yarn to make some sort of picture. So I made the Swedish flag with some Russian dolls with only yarn! I was very proud with how it came out especially because it took almost a week to complete. Summary: Today I created a poster for my own origin myth. I finished just before class ended and am happy with how I made it. Reflection: Today I learned and got some good experience with adobe express and making a poster.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response:  I have really wanted to know, what happens when you die. Do you see anything? Do you become a floating spirit? I don't know. I want to know this just because I am very curious if I will ever see anything again. I've also always wondered what living a regular life was like 1000 years ago. How was the healthcare, how was the food, what did people do all day? Summary: Today we created our own Origin Myths in class. We had to map out our ideas in a chart, then start writing. Reflection:  I got better at planning and I used my imagination very well for trying to create an origin myth.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response:  One time I felt completely lost was when I was taking an APES unit test in Ms. Baker Eady's class, last year. I hadn't studied, and when I read the first question, I was very lost. Summary: Today we presented our assigned topic for "The Jealous Father". I read about the historical and cultural setting for where the story took place. Reflection:  Today I feel like I got slightly better and more comfortable reading in front of the class. I'm normally not great at it, but I was proud of how I read.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response:  I've adapted fairly well so far. I am answering in class questions (which was a goal of mine), and getting to know more people in this class. One weakness of mine is all the reading we do. I strive to get better at it as we progress through the year, but as of now it is still a challenge for me to focus, and retain the information we just read. For example in "The Jealous Father", I was doing great in the beginning, but then I lost focus somehow and got lost for a bit. So hopefully I'll get better at that. Summary: Today we took a quiz on origin myths. We read a new myth, then answered some questions. Reflection:  Today I got better at analyzing origin myths and answering questions about them.

Describe a real-life situation in which jealousy negatively affected a relationship you experienced.

Prompt Response:  I experienced jealousy when my good friend wanted to go fishing one day and didn't invite me, but he invited someone else without giving me an invite. I felt jealous and slightly betrayed. But everything is good now. Summary: Today we read a story about a jealous father and wanting to get rid of his son. After we deeply analyzed the story, we got into groups and together had to complete a PowerPoint presentation about a topic we got assigned. Reflection:  Today I learned a lesson from the story from the son. Even a kid can become a man when it comes to survival and confidence.

Write about a meaningful object or place in your life that carries a story.

Prompt Response:  A meaningful place in my life is going to Siesta Key, FL, for Thanksgiving. My mom's side of the family has a tradition to go down there every 2 years, and has been a tradition since the 1950's! It holds many family memories for me that always bring a smile to my face when I think about the good times. We go to the beach, fish, relax and enjoy Thanksgiving together. Summary: Today we read the "Navajo Creation" myth and analyzed it. Reflection:  I learned about the difference between a regular story and a myth story.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths

Prompt Response:  One time I felt connected to nature was when I finished a hike to the top of a mountain, and just took in a big breath of air, then exhaled. It makes me notice more things you wouldn't normally appreciate. For example, the sound of birds chirping, the beautiful clouds and sky, a nice cool breeze, and a beautiful landscape. Summary: Today we talked about the history of native American literature. Reflection:  I learned about the characteristics of origin myths. They contain social values, customs, or cultural detail.

Test 1

 This is only a test.
